Lie To Me – What Copier Dealers and Used Car Salesmen Have in Common

April 25th, 2017 | 3 min. read

By Gary Harouff

Every copier dealership promises excellent service and support if you buy or lease from them - just like every used car sales man promises you a perfectly almost-like-new car.

Copier companies, like car salesmen, routinely over promise, especially when they are trying to sell you something. But instead of promising you the moon, and leaving you with nothing, wouldn’t it be nice to have it the other way around? It might sound silly, but why is it that the copier industry (and car dealerships for that matter) haven’t figured out that it might make more sense to flip this one around—maybe under promise and over deliver to their customers?

It’s refreshing when you go to buy something and you don’t “feel” like you are being sold. It feels comfortable, right? It’s even better when they go the extra mile for you and that feels genuine, not staged. That’s the kind of feeling that makes you love your service provider and tell everyone how great they are. They focus on your unique business need and provide great service.

What’s not so refreshing are the unkept promises that you the customer hear over and over.

Here are three lies copier dealers like to tell.

1. We will be there in four hours or less…

While our competitors “say” their average response time is four hours or less, the reality is that in the same window of time that our competitors have to physically get to your office and assess your problem, at AIS, we’ve already been there, fixed the problem and got you back and running. Our numbers prove it:

2. We have the parts you need in stock.
But do they really? At AIS, our 30+ technicians carry over $12k worth of parts and supplies in every vehicle. They anticipate your needs each morning as they are gearing up for their day to serve you so they don’t have to run back to the warehouse and leave you hanging. (We also plan ahead and carry four months worth of stock—for a total of $3.2 million in equipment and supplies—for our customers in our warehouse too, just sayin’.) Can we stock EVERY part possible? No, but we keep as many parts on hand as possible to provide better service.

3. Our techs can fix your problems on the first visit.

In the industry we call this first call resolution rate – how likely can the repair technician resolve your problem on the first try.  At AIS, we are proud to say 92% of our calls are fixed the first time we come out. And that’s because we not only have the parts, but the fact that our techs are just plain good at what they do, with each one holding 58 (sometimes more) certifications to show for it.

So when it comes to office equipment, we're going to lie to you by under promising and over delivering.
