Proper Disposal of Old Business Copiers

What happens to copiers once they've been phased out?

Proper disposal of business machines is often mandated by law. Even when it’s not, it behooves organizations to treat their environments with respect and discard these machines in a suitable manner.

What Happens to My Old Copier?

The goal of professional copier repair in Las Vegas is to ensure that area businesses get as much out of their machines as possible. Sometimes a copier or printer is beyond repair or simply too outmoded to continue using. What happens at this point depends on your decisions, and the worst case is that the old copier ends up in a landfill.

Consider Donating the Copier

Before you dispose of an office printer or other business machine that still works, consider donating it. You can donate it to a local non-profit organization or even a school and perhaps write that donation off. Another option is to contact the local Chamber of Commerce and perhaps donate the machine to a small business or startup.

Consider Selling It

Business copiers are expensive and even old ones have value. You may be able to use an online service to sell it locally, and you may be able to sell it through the service that handles your copier maintenance. Even if the copier is broken, the machine likely still has value for the parts that can be used to repair other machines.

Contact Your Local Trash Service

If donation or selling isn’t an option, speak with your waste management service. Many communities in Nevada have recycling for appliances included in their trash service. In many cases, the company will instruct you to leave the old copier curbside on a particular day of the week. If they don’t handle such recycling, then they may be able to provide you leads to other local options.

Call the Manufacturer

If all else fails, contact the manufacturer. Most of the major manufacturers of business copiers sold in the U.S. have recycling avenues available to their customers. Often, this service is provided at no cost, and even if the brand doesn’t have a physical presence in Nevada, they can contract the work to a local business that does handle the recycling of copiers and other appliances.
